Commissions Unit: Project Change

We have now changed our idea to Food Banks instead of the Street Pastors as they have not got back to us in 2 weeks to let us know if they are up for the documentary.
Time is running out so we phoned the Food Bank and they said yes to us doing a Documentary on them and we got a meeting for the following week.

Commissions Unit: Script Feedback

Some feedback from the Script:

  1. Structure
  2. Add detail - too vague
  3. Intro thoughts/focus/characters with V/O
  4. V/O or sync clips to end film
This was a good first draft just needs some improvement on detail and structure.

Commissions Unit: Mini Project Script

Commissions Unit: Mini Project

We have been set a Mini-Project about the day of one person in our small groups.
My group is set up of Roxanne and Danny, we will be filming Danny's life.
This is just for us to get the hang of sequencing and documentary style.
We will have to do a script, a shot list, consent forms and figure out the crew.

Commissions Unit: Pitch feedback

Helen liked my groups idea, there was just a couple of things we need to work on:
Like the fact that 3 females will be filming on a night out by ourselves so Helen suggested we take a couple of Males as sort of bodyguards as we will be carrying heavy equipment.
From this we have decided to use at least 2 Men that took bulky to come with us to film.
Helen was also worried about getting permission from everyone that would present on the night out as we can't get them to sign a consent form when they have been drinking.
We would put posters up in the clubs/bars to warn people we will be filming.

Commissions Unit: Sound Workshop

In the sound workshop on Wednesday 12th March we had a task in groups to create a 1 minute clip that tests are abilities on sound this is what we can up with:

This is the Pictures from the set, where we had a clip mic under the tea-towel and a Radio mic between us about knee height pointing up:

We hid the clip Mic under the tea tower to try and see if we could get better sound, as we had both me and roxanne talking in to the Mic and having it clipped to one of us would affect the voice of the other.

Commissions Unit: Pitch

We had to Pitch this idea to a panel of people to check if the idea can/will work, this goes with a powerpoint of the basic things we will cover.

Commissions Unit: Unique Selling Point

Our groups Unique Selling Point is that one of us is going to get involved and volunteer, this is to get the audience involved in the documentary.

Commissions Unit: Group Contributions

Within our group of 3 we have a different variety of people who want to do different things.

Roxanne wants to do the research and organisation- Pre-Production
Aquila wants to do the filming, Directing and organising the shoot - Production
And Me, I want to do the Editing and creating the final piece - Post-production

This works well for us as this means we won't argue about who does what, we will all contribute with ideas for each others work so its not just just one person's idea.

Commission Unit: Ideas

Some of my ideas to help with the documentary:

I want to make a fast paced documentary.
We should have an interview on location with one of the Street Pastors.
One of us should volunteer and walk around with someone and we can film it while the one of us can ask questions.

We should try and involve the camera/audience int he best way possible so they can really get into the story.
We should get an interview with a Street Pastor on location so in the background you will have things going on so the audience get to see rather than just a house background.

Commissions Unit: Chosen Topic

After a group discussion we have choson to do our documentary on Street Pastors, within My Hero.
Street Pastors is an organisation that looks after people on a night out, they do this by giving people water and holding their hair if they are sick, and giving girls flip-flops to replace their heels. They are just there to help people who need it at the time and to stop people ending up in the gutters. Some call them 'guardian angels'.

Commissions Unit: Research

This short clip gives an insight to what i agree a hero actually is, as people think its Superman or Wonder-women but these don't exist. The real hero's are those in everyday life that you walk past in the street they just never get noticed.

Commission Unit: Research

After careful thought my group has decided to choose 'My Hero' for our documentary, we have been going over ideas to way sort of topic to choose for the 10 minutes.
Some of the idea's we have come up with so far:

  1. Doing something good for the homeless
  2. Food Banks
  3. Street Pastors
  4. Firefighters
  5. Lifeguards
  6. Working with the Elderly
  7. Charity work

Commissions Unit: Research

Hero:
I think a hero is someone that has done something good for their country and the people in it. People that go to war or even do community or volunteer work i feel can be a hero as they do something to help people in some way.

The Dictionaries definition of a Hero:
A man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.

Anyone can be a Hero but not everyone will.

Commissions Unit: Research

I watched this short Introduction into the Cathedral just i could get a glance into it's history plus this also showed me what the Cathedral looks like inside and out.

Commissions Unit: Introduction

The commissions unit is about making a 10 minute documentary of your choice of topic, we was given:
  1. BBC3 -'My Hero'
  2. Canterbury Cathedral
This is to be made in groups of three which we got to choose, my partners are Roxanne and Aquila.
