In this project I found that it has been a lot of ups and downs with problems after problems but I have over come them all with the help of supportive people close to me. I was organised to begin with but with the transition from Digital News to Fiction it was a bit confusing and I was not as prepared as I should have been, as I should have been recording quicker than was planned.
I had my idea quite quickly and the script was quite clear, everything was set up to film 3 weeks before hand-in I had the locations I had the adverts out their for actors and composers.
Everything was set but no one applied for my main character which is a 45 year old man, this meant that with 2 weeks to go I had no one to appear without their face being seen in my film.
I then I spoke to my dad and he had an idea to ask my uncle if he would help out and I could then move my shoot home to Essex, I never thought about using my Uncle so I phoned him and because he doesn't have a job he was willing to help out, but as a back up my dads friend could have done it. So I then went home and me and my mum looked for a new church location for me to film at and contact them, I was lucky as my mum suggested St. Margaret's church which had a field leading up to it and I knew it had a graveyard as I used to walk past it everyday to school.
I got in contact with them and we sorted a date, but then my mum came up with an idea that if you don't see the characters face then why not use my brother as I could put my dads coat on him and just cut his head out as he has bright ginger hair.
I also asks my mums friends son who is 10 to helps out as the little boy in the graveyard and he really wanted to star in his first film which was great, he actually did very well and looked sad even though he did not cry, he even helped me out on the shoot being my runner when switching between the tripod and the shoulder rig.
Overall that day went well except that the reverent for the church kept asking us how long we was going to be, so we felt rushed and so we did all the inside of the church first, she also kept watching us which was a little of putting but it all got done and I like the video.
I haven't actually done much to the video with effects and fancy writing as I wanted a natural emotional video with sound so I editing it roughly and sent it to the composer, he then 2 days before hand-in says he won't finish in time leaving me with a edited video that is silent, now I was hoping that the music he created was going to make the video flow as it was to be made to fit the film but I then had a day to find royalty free music online, luckily I managed it and the music wasn't too bad I just wish I would have got more than one composer to make a piece and I would have back ups and some to chose from.
Now that my video is finished it is not what I actually had in my mind when I came up with the idea and the script as I completely got rid of the town scene and a lot of the POV and yet the video is nearly 5 minutes, but I am happy with the result but I know that I could have done better with the music, playing around with the poem on the screen more and even though I didn't rush towards the end I feel I should have done my work quicker leaving time for mistakes.
I am also proud that I was the one to create the intro as I have never done something like that before and I didn't spend to long on it and with a little help form Lex everyone liked and agreed on it, my second attempt, if I had more time I would have played with it more making some more movement on screen.

Fiction Adaptation: Film
Here is my finished film with all the music and poem done, I am proud of it even with the hiccups and all the ups and downs, I don't really like all the camera shakes for the POV and following the actor but if it was still it would look wrong.
Fiction Adaptation: Final Essay
This is my final Essay, I managed to write the minimum words of 2000, I am proud that I managed to write 2100 words and I feel this is my best essay yet as what I wrote about I am passionate about and is a very good topic as I had loads of information about Dracula plus I enjoyed watching the films and series as I love the genre of vampires and talking about adaptations I found easier than I thought as I liked both the adaptations of Dracula from the book and thought they kept the integrity, so I wrote down all this in the essay, which i feel is a big improvement from my first attempt and this has loads of references.
Fiction Adaptation: Music
These two songs are what I have used in my Fiction film, I had to used royalty free music as m composer dropped out the day before he was suppose to hand it to me so I had to look of music which was stressful as I wanted it to be made to fit my film and so my film would flow and the music would go up and down with the film but I had to work with what I had.
I chose these two as they are slow and emotional but one is slightly more happier which I feel suited the sunset of my film and the other was not quite long enough to fit the whole film which is why I found 2, plus I think i made the best and they worked as they are beautiful pieces and I would have wanted my track to sound a bit like these anyways so I think I was lucky to find these on youtube, I even think I was lucky that they are loyalty free too.
Fiction Adaptation: Intro 2
Not everyone liked the first intro so everyone suggested ways to improve and shorten the intro, that suggested a mosaic effect so that everyones images from their film is on the screen at the same time which means it could be 10 seconds or shorter, this gave me more work to do to create the new intro as I wasn't that sure how to create this effect so with a little help from Lex I created this:
This does not have music as I dint want to add some in case it didn't fit someones film so I thought I would let it either be silent or people can add the music from their own films.
This is quite short but I feel it doesn't need to be longer as it is only still images not he screen but I am proud of this as it only took me and Lex a couple of hours to create it plus it was a good learning experience for me.
I showed everyone and they all like it so I am happy plus I still have time to do my own work which is good. No one came up with anything they want to change or add so I am happy as it would take a while to change things and I would rather work on my own work so I am not rushing around before deadline.

Fiction Adaptation: Intro
This is the Intro that I have created for the class, I had everyone send me clips and images of their film, I then imported them into final cut pro and into a timeline where I cut down each to be a second long and the person's name the clip belonged to in the bottom right corner, which was an Idea of Chris's which I found a better idea than mine which was to put the letters from the word fiction adaptation one by one come up in the bottom left corner. This I liked but where people have given me me both moving clips and still images I feel it looks a bit weird as some of the stills I feel should be moving, also either all the clips should be moving or stills would work better. So I showed the class and they liked it but just felt something was missing or wrong so they came up with the idea to try mosaic so all the images are on the screen at the same time with the names still on them and this would make the intro slightly shorter as people are worried about it being to long to fit their video.
I feel that this hasn't really been that difficult as its like editing my own video as not much has been done as what can you really do with the clips as people asked for the clips to be put together and fastened up, I'm not sure I like this video as I feel it looks a bit weird with still clips and moving clips, I am not very good with effects as I haven't had much experience so I thought I would have ago and see what intro I could come up with without many effects just natural clips smoothly edited together without a template.

Fiction Adaptation: Intro Making
In a day I have been given 9 clips including my own so I decided to give the intro a try and see what I can come up with, I know it sort of needs to be quick as it shouldn't be too long but slow enough to see some of it too, rather than just having the images and very short clips on the screen I have put the names of who's film it belongs to and I will then end with the words Fiction Adaptation on the screen but at this time I don't have everyones clips so the clips are slightly longer and this last 10 seconds so far but will change over the next couple of days.
Fiction Adaptation: Intro Idea
The group decided on the intro idea being that we each submit a small clip or still from each of our films to be put together and made fast to make a small intro that is unique and we all have a part in, also it will not be a template then. We all got together on Monday after hand in for digital news and Andre originally volunteered to make the piece but he did not have a hard drive to put the clips on to so I said I would do it as I have spare time as my project is well on its way to being finished, so I put some peoples clips on my hard drive and the others who didn't have theirs with them said they would send them to me.
Now I am not technical and good at effects but I am willing to have ago and really try but also there isn't much you can do to clips, I just have to do something with the title (Fiction Adaptation) but I want to keep it simple as if I put any emotion to it, it may not fit someones so I will make it as neutral as possible, lets try this new task for me.

Fiction Adaptation: Final Script
This is the new version of my script based on what I film on my shoot but this is a lot shorter than my original script so I feel like I have left stuff out plus when writing this I felt like because I have no text and is all silent it was hard to write what was going on, on screen and was starting to read like a book so I had to go over it to make sure, I still feel like its not finished but I spent more time on my video and my essay rather than perfecting this, but I feel like it is a better script as it fits my video better now.

Digital News Theory: Critical Reflections
This video I feel is my best work so far on the course and I am proud of my team and what we have achieved, I can find a few small things wrong which could have been edited out except the small high pitched noise which is barely noticeable over the presenter in studio, it is from the hoover which when filming thought we re-recorded another version but obviously it was still present, This i feel is a small mistake and with more time could have been fixed.
When filming with Jasmin for the green screen I thought we was going to have the presenter sat at a desk but at last minute I decided to film them standing too just in case it looked better, which was a good call for when designing the green screen Mike came out with a simple but I feel amazing green screen effect as he had not used after effects before and chose a simple design plus we hadn't given him suggestions on the look yet, once I saw this I loved it as it is simple and looks like an art exhibition which suits our theme plus Kentertainment is not a distraction as its not moving but yet looks like a piece of art on the wall.
The intro was also Mike's idea and we all chipped in and helped out also trying other ways rather than just paint splats but also finger prints and pens, but in the end I feel the paint splats worked well as we also fitted them in with our name tags on everyone during the film which is creative and links the film together.
The way in which each film is edited is good and Lex did a good job despite being tricky with the live piece and the reporter talking so fast, so we re-recorded and made her more of a voice over making it easier for lex and with lots of food footage it could have been boring but it was smooth editing just a few minor errors and one of the shots in the food festival is a shot of a women on the right side which would have been fine if she didn't turn around and be holding a camera bag which turns out to be me, I feel if this shot was to be used to either cut before we notice the bag or maybe try cropping or another shot, but overall the food festival turned out good considering we planned and filming it within 4 days.
The Folkstone piece was easier and smoother as we had more time to plan and organise plus our reporter didn't talk as fast as our food festival one which was out big problem wight that one, the reporter we felt made that piece and went better except the fact she didn't pronounce Folkstone right and pronounced the L rather than making it silent, even though we did get her to say it right in one of the takes that one was not the best and so we decided to keep her saying it even though its slightly wrong as its not a big deal as she was not from the area.
Overall I am pleased with the film and I hope the team is too as we all worked hard and put in a lot of effort and some stress to get it all done in time but this I feel is my best piece of work yet and the best people I have worked with and I hope that I can have the pleasure of working him them again as they got on with their work without complaint and we all contributed with everything and worked well as a team to create the best piece of work we could, it can only get better.

Digital News Theory: Film
This is our final film which now includes the teaser which is a voice over with images to come up in the show, we now have the Kentertainment intro and fully edited videos. The green screen has been added and we now have credits which we didn't have any of in the rough cut, now this has all come together and is ready for viewing.

Digital New Theory: Music
The website is just one I googled for royalty free music and this came up, I typed in entertainment as that is our genre and listened to the list below, after liking one I downloaded it ready to show to my group, If they didn't like it I had a couple of back ups if necessary as I felt that this might not fit.
This is the screen shots of the website in which I found to use for music in our Digital News intro, I liked the Bitter Days after 50 seconds and so I suggested to our group who liked it but wasn't sure if it would fit our video, we added it in and because we are only using it for a couple seconds it worked quite well and filled the missing gap where silence was.

Digital News Theory: Essay
This is my final essay/critical case study for Digital news. This is the comparison between the news channels BBC and Channel 4 on Thursday 13th November, This essay is just under the word count of 1500 words by 52 words and I used 1 book for my quotes and references as I felt as this is not an essay I didn't need to use as much backing up of my work but just to compare what each news channel for that day did and why they are different and similar. I am quite happy with this essay and I showed it to Lucy my learning support tutor and she only found a few things wrong with it which I have corrected and for a first and only attempt I am happy to hand this in and hopefully not sway my grade and bring down the video grade.

Fiction Adaptation: Consent Forms
These are the consent forms for my two actors in my film the top form is for my main character which you don't really see, and the bottom one for the little boy crying over the graveyard. I didn't get them to fill in the whole form as then I would then need to blur it anyways, I decided not to blur the signature as they aren't really proper signatures.

Fiction Adaptation: Prayer
Dear God,
I wanted to thank you for all that I have, I don't want to be greedy and am thankful but I wish that my family all come for christmas and travel safely this year, it would be lovely to have snow so the kids can make snow angels while I have drinks with the adults. I just want you to help aunt Maggie to not burn the dinner. I am thankful that I have a job and a warm roof over my head while others struggle and are not as thankful.
Amen.
This is the prayer that will be a voiceover while my main character walks down the aisle of the church, this will be in the background for the whole time he is walking until he walks into the side room with the candles, I am not sure about the words but they are not selfish and asking for stuff but also thankful and talking about family. I am getting a male to do the voiceover as I feel it would be more appropriate as all my actors are male and I feel it will give a better effect as men tend to not show emotion as much.
Fiction Adaptation: The Shoot
On the day of the shoot the church told us to be there for 12.30 so just after the sunday service. Me and my 2 actors arrive early at 12.20 so we could be punctual and make a good impression, we met the reverent Carolyn and went over where we will be filming so she was briefed and so was my actors.
Carolyn asked how long we would take as she would need to keep the church open for us, she was hovering around and making us feel pressured as she was watching waiting to close the church to go home, so I had to do the inside scenes first. This only took us about 45 minutes as there wasn't much I needed to film inside the church I just needed to make sure I got all the camera angles needed so the POV and following the actor but also just the feet walking towards the altar and POV of the feet.
We then did the outside in the graveyard with my little boy actor this we had plenty of time for and didn't feel rushed but we managed to get it in 2 takes and I took several different angles to give me more coverage, this was all done on the shoulder rig and I felt like it was still a bit to shakey and will need stabilising in the edit.
The field bit at the end I decided to do on the tripod instead on a follow shot as it was beautiful with the sun and lens flare plus you then get to see the actors head event hough they are wearing a hood as I didn't want to give away the actors identity so the audience can be in suspicion instead.
Overall I am happy that I have filmed and still have time to edit but I felt a bit rushed at the beginning and could of been a bit more stable with the shoulder rig, if I would of had the choice I would have rather filmed all on a tripod as its more stable and the audience won't feel ill and not want to watch because of the shaking but this was a learning experience that I know I won't be doing again in a hurry without more practice with the should rig and making it more stable.

Fiction Adaptation: Shot List
- POV with me holding the camera all the way through
- POV of actor's shoulder all the way through
- Actor walking into the distance over the fields
- POV on feet walking over the fields
- POV of feet walking over the fields as an extra close up
- Actors hands in pocket and camera follows in front
- Feet walk from left to right on the screen
- Over the shoulders where actor not in focus
- Floor shot walking through the church and field
- Small shots in the church so not much is seen
- Close up shots of hand opening doors.
- Sunset
- Actor picking up a flower and letting it drop
- Close up of a candle flickering
- Wide shot of loads of candles flickering
- Shot of ripples on a lake
There is not a lot that happens in this film as its a silent and emotional piece in only a few locations so there is not a lot of shots that are needed, I have wrote down as many different shots as I could think of that would make it easier to edit an cut and not make it all POV. I feel that there is enough variety of shots that I could film so make should I get all the coverage and have more to work with.
Fiction Adaptation: Locations
I am now filming in St.Marys church in Broomfield, Chelmsford. This church has a graveyard which surrounds the whole church so there is plenty of places in which I can film the boy crying over a grave, and there is a walkway with an archway leading to the entrance of the church via a couple of graves where I would prefer to film as it would fit the film perfectly and make it easier and better to film.
This is the archway in which I would like my main character to walk through and up to the door and as you can see there is graves and not a long walkway in which I would have room to cut the footage if necessary.

Fiction Adaptation: Candles
This is my test with candles for a scene in my film, my main character walks into a room full of flickering candles to represents the soldiers. So I layer out nearly 100 candles on my living room floor as this is the biggest room in my house, this took a while to light them as there was so many. I did have a problem of my thumb starting hurting so I used a already lit angle to light the rest and I accidentally got wax on the carpet so should of probably done this outside.
I experimented with lots of different shots, I did close ups like this and then blew a little at it to show movement and a breeze I also tried blurring it and depth of field shots so I could cover lots and have more to work with in the edit.
This is who many I used, I rounded them up after blowing them out and moved them and this is how many, it doesn't look like a lot and i pictured more in my film but in the dark filming them flicker it was good and I feel like I got some good shots just needed more speed out and more on the left of the room.
Fiction Adaptation: Test Shot
This is the test shot I did with my brother down our corridor to test the shoulder rig, we did several shots with following him and feet shots, so I put the camera on the ground and he walked away and also a POV of his feet while walking. These shots are practices of the shots I want to do on the day as they give me more to edit with rather than just POV just in case its not steady enough.

Fiction Adaptation: Cast and Location Change
Unfortunately I have had to change my location and cast for my film as the people who applied to be in my film on the starnow website did not fit my main character and my location fell through, so I decided to go back to my home back in Essex to call on some people to help and I found an actor in my family quickly and the young boy is a friend of the family as was very happy to star in his first film, the church location worked with me to organise a day in which to film and was happy to help out. This I felt was a quick turn around but worked well and I managed to get good shots which I am happy with, I had to cut 2 locations and only really film at the church and in the field but I feel that I will have enough footage and hopefully won't struggle.

Fiction Adaptation: Alex Boorman Workshop
We had Alex teach us for the day and he wanted to see our skills so asked us to create a sequence of short films, about 30 seconds each on angry happy and sad.
We was given 3 hours in which to make edit and have lunch, we was in groups of 3 and had to come up with ideas for each.
For angry we thought Roxanne would be better to act it but we wanted to get a shot of revving a car and Roxanne wouldn't do this so I was in it trying to be angry. The idea progressed for the revving idea, we was worried it wouldn't be long enough but it was our longest one and was over 45 seconds.
There was a few things that cold of been changed and done differently but we didn't have the time to have a prefect edit, I was the one editing and there is a few things I would have done if I had the time like smooth transitions from shots and the shot of me reaching for the car door handle wasn't edited properly so i reach for the handle twice. The sound in angry jumps when we change shot which I should have smoothed out.
The sad piece was no way good enough or long enough but we ran out of ideas as it had stopped raining which we wanted but know for next time to have filmed it first, the idea was to get rain drops and raining on a puddle etc, but all we could get was the rain drops on the car window as it stopped raining when we finished filming angry.

Digital News Production: Critical Case Study Channels
I have chosen to do my essay on the news form 2 news reports on Thursday 13th of November from Channel 4 and BBC. Here are my notes from watching the two 1 hour long programs:
4 news:
Starts with a sum up
4 news:
Starts with a sum up

Interview with the accused terrorist/smuggler
Facebook messages of threats
Shots of her music video
Tagline and shots form the program
To me this is a long program that jumps a lot and has a lot of fast editing to fit so many stories into the hour but not sure some are necessary and feel a bit rushed and copied from other days, the big story about the docks isn't really surprising as its the local big story of the day but there was a lot of conspiracy and interviews where nothing told us what they really found out. The other conspiracy story was the Fifa bidding which England was gutted about and no one understand how Russia won they are staying it was fixed. This program has a lot going on in different orders from the studio to live to interview its a bit confusing.
BBC: south east

I feel like much more was happening in the BBC news as there was more notes but that the Channel 4 was quicker and more confusing, the footage and stories from both channels are fairly similar even the same footage in both. The BBC has a brighter vibe to it as it used white in its back ground which gives a better feel to the program rather than the red in channel 4. There can be a lot to talk about in my essay with all these notes and why each channel picks which stories and why it leaves some out plus the way they present each story.

Fiction Adaptation: Star-now Applicants
Here is a screenshot of my listing on star now but with the up to date applicants. I am very please that i have so many applicants so quickly the only thing is at the moment is I don't have enough applicants for the extra's females role, I was hoping for 4 girls standing outside the theatre chatting but if I only receive 3 good people I can work with that if needed. I am happy with the composers and male actor applicants I just need to go through them and choose.

Fiction Adaptation: Research for Locations
After writing my script and knowing what sort of location I will be looking for I then went to Ren and Mike who have lived in Maidstone for years and described what I wanted to see if they would know the place/places.
I described my church scene to them, so I need:
I described my church scene to them, so I need:
- A church in the middle of fields and isolated so I could see it from a distance and walk towards it as the person.
- A graveyard, this is to represent the all the dead from the war, plus I have a quick scene where Joseph walks up to a big who is crying over their relative or loved one.
- An isle to walk up as described in the script, long enough and so I can have someone at the end praying.
- To walk through/past the graveyard to the church doors and the same on the way out.
Mike was the one who came up with St.Margarets in Barming, Maidstone. So I looked this up on the internet to see pictures and where it is etc. From there found the numbers and emails for the reverent and I contacted him to see if I could have permission to film there, I felt this is a bit of a sensitive matter as it could be disrespectful as it has a graveyard, which I do not want to see the names but if I do get them I will blur.
Fiction Adaptation: Script
This script is not the final version but just a rough to hand in and check I am on the right lines.
I am happy that i managed to create a story line as I only had bullet points on what I wanted to go into the script but not the order. However I am not happy with this script as I haven't used final draft in a while so I couldn't remember how to show the words on screen in the script so I just wrote on screen which I feel is wrong, I also feel that I didn't write this properly as I am not so good at writing and have no interest in script writing so I feel that Helen would be able to give me loads of good feedback that I can improve on.

Fiction Adaptation: Alex Boorman
We had a special guess come to the studios to teach us, Alex Boorman who is a camera operator and editor, he is here to teach us about the industry we want to join soon.
He went through his carer and how he got into media and how he landed his job.
This is his show reel to show some of the amazing stuff he has created in his couple of years.
Alex Boorman Camera Operator | Video Editor Showreel 2014 from Alex Boorman on Vimeo.
From Alex teaching us I learnt a few things which was very useful to join the industry. I learnt that it good if you have your specific field you like but its better if you can do more than one things as he is a camera man and an editor, so where I couldn't decide whether to be producer or editor I now don't need to chose but to develop my skills in both fields so when I do join the industry I have more chance of getting a job.
Alex also helped me with my main problem for filming my fiction adaptation which is the POV and following the character with out all the camera shake as the camera has to be face high and be as steady as possible as no one wants to watch a shaky film so he suggested either a fig rig or a shoulder rig which should take out all the bounce from my hands.
Ales showed us all the films he has worked on as a camera man so we could get to see what sort of things a new film maker joining the industry would have to take on and his stuff wasn't as good as his stuff now but I feel that I could start at where he started even though I don't think I want to be a camera operator.

Digital News Production: Channel workshop
We was given a task to compare 2 different news channels front he same day in groups, this is similar to our essay so was a good exercise plus it helped me to figure out exactly what to look for and compare, the better channels to compare are Channel 4 or BBC as they have more going on and have different rules and standards to live up to. In my group was Danny and Chris and we chose to compare Channel 4 and ITV and these are our notes:
ITV:
Starts with reporter
Then V/O with remembrance poppies in London
Presenter in studio
ITV:
Starts with reporter
Then V/O with remembrance poppies in London
Presenter in studio
- Worldwide news
- Space
Intro
First story is the remembrance poppies
3 children talking about war
2 reporters same story one in London one in France
Benefits story with no reporter but V/O
Statistics all politics and no emotion
Interview with MP
Back in the studio
Local news on paedaphile (London)
Interview in studio, statistics (Economics)
worldwide (negative/death) India statistics and interview
Space (positive)
back to remembrance
Weather
Channel 4 news:
Sum up - remembrance, Ebola
Intro
Live in London at the poppies - reporter has no name
children talking about the tribute
Studio - sum up
Live at location on the Ebola story - interview with Tony Blair
Studio - remembrance with interview
Lots of switching between John Snow live and in the studio which is quite confusing and distracting
Local news about paedophile - statistics and interview
Benefits - same footage and story as ITV but has David Cameron as well
Sports story (negative)
International story - south Korea and the ferry tipping
Live at poppies but talking about a different story about cystic fibrosis
Interview with a sufferer
Back to poppy scene but again a different story
Story on 3D inappropriate story
Interview with artist
Poppies story and interview with army cadet
weather
There is a lot of difference between these 2 shows as I feel Channel 4 had a lot more stories and is more fast paced with the editing and hurrying. The itv seems to care less on what they say and how they portray the stories plus they don't need to cover as much in the half an hour slot. Channel 4 seem to have more struck rules to what ITV have and can say etc.

Fiction Adaptation: Script notes
In order to write my script I felt I had to write down an order in which the poem would fit with what is happening on screen as I know what I want but not in which order so this is the rough nots I wrote before writing the script:
Start by walking through a field up to a church which is on the horizon.
Once we get to the church the bells chime for midday and we hear gun fires (maybe he jumps and ducks)
First paragraph ( 2 lines of the poem) appear on the screen.
Walk through the graveyard and look at all the gravestone to see how many people have died.
Walk inside the church
Seeing a man saying a prayer at the altar
Start paragraph on screen
then hear the choir ( maybe even see them)
starts to fade as walks out over the graveyard and sees a boy crying over a loved one
Last paragraph
Walk towards town passing a group of girls outside a theatre/cinema
Then pass flowers looking miserable and dying in someones garden
Walk across another fields towards the sunset
This is a very rough idea of the script on screen but I wrote what I thought should be using the poem I will obviously put a lot more detail into the script when writing it but this I feel is a definate helpful staring point rather than starting without any ideas.

Fiction Adaptation: Casting - StarNow
This is a screenshot for my listing on star now, I created 3 listings one for my male actor which we will barely be seeing on screen just probably the back of their head etc. as it is all POV shots and some with the camera following the main character. This is my main role but technically is still an extra's role and I am hoping someone fits my character role. One of the other roles is extra's for my females meeting outside the cinema/theatre, I was thinking i would have 3 or 4 people for this and then maybe slide to a flashback of when he was a teen and this is da ja vo. The females I don't necessarily have specific requirements but roughly the same height and all slim with long hair.
I also need a composer as I am doing a silent piece so I need specific music to fit what happens as the story goes on.
Fiction Adaptation: Edit workshop
Adaptation of the music video by Mr Probz, this is my version of the adaptation.
I feel if i had more time and footage i could create something better but i am happy withe the final result seen as it was completed in about 3 hours. Footage came from youtube.

Fiction Adaptation: Essay
This is the draft essay that I handed in today, its total of 1165 words is about half of what I will be handing in on December 12th.
I am quite proud of this essay as i have lots of notes and quotes I just needed to sit and write the essay, now as the draft needed to be between 500-1000 words I was going to hand in about 500 words but I was on a roll when writing this and I decided to hand in as much as I possibly could today so I know whether what I have written was the right stuff.
I feel that at the start of the essay I did waffle a little bit so the beginning might not be right but I felt that the person marking the essay might not know much about the subject so I wrote a bit about it.

Fiction Adaptation: My Idea
My idea hasn't changed much since the start of term when we was given the handbook and the information for we had to do. Using world war 1 poems chosen by Helen we have to chose one and make a short film on it, for the first couple weeks back I have been focusing on my Digital News project so I haven't given this much thought of organisation so I now have to pull it together quicker but I feel confident I can do it as I know what I want I just need to put it in an order which I can follow and script.
I originally had 2 ideas which was the memorial one with candles, flashbacks and emotion through music. I also had the modern day approach idea which was interpret the poem differently and use the words to translate to a nightout/house party so have the blinds come down as the sun rises after a night out and watch the girls go home doing the 'walk of shame' but unfortunately Helen didn't think this would be very easy idea so I decided to use my other idea instead and add stuff to it making it a secure and finished idea here is the ideas:

- boy crying over a loved one/soldier
- Candles flickering (lots of candles filling a room)
- POV of the person so the audience can feel and see everything through them
- See the main characters hands when open doors and maybe a look down at the ground and see there feet
- Emotion piece so no talking or anything except natural buzz track and music.
- Sunset over the fields as the blinds come down over the day.
- A look at he sky to see the stars, one for every man sacrificed
- A group of girls chatting outside the cinema causes da ja vou and we see a quick flashback a few years ago when he was younger and the girls were doing the same thing
The only critical stuff with all this is I need to find where I am going to film and if it fits plus I see that I can't just hid my character and that the audience needs something to relate to so I need to show more of him which I can plan to put into the script but I don't want to show there whole identity I wan tot keep some as a mystery, also I can see that the POV is going to make some trouble for me as its not going to be steady and could loo really bad so I need to work on the hand shake and use everything I can to stop the bouncing around and as smooth as possible, this might mean making more cuts and doing the filming over and over till I get it right and as smooth as possible I just need to be careful if its over a day as the weather can change.

Digital News Production: Channel
This is our design for the news channel, we had to make this to upload our news videos on. We wanted to call it Kentertainment as that is our production name plus we used a shot of our intro as the name as we didn't have any other form of Kentertainment written anywhere.
The only things that have been uploaded so far is the rough cut so we could hand it in and everyone watch it and the finished intro which is not yet been put in with the rough cut.
Digital News Production: Draft Hand in
This is the rough cut so far for our news pieces. The studio green screening and the intro are not yet put up onto this as it is only a rough cut and so not a proper edit. The food festival is first which needs more editing and to fit the repeater talking as Cecily talks way too quickly and the class agreed plus it needs stretching out a bit more as its only 1.30 minutes and needs to be 2 minutes. The Banksy piece (package) is second and is nearly finished, everyone said they lied this piece and the reporter was profession and looked good and we are proud of this piece. Helen liked this and Sheryll and said its coming along nicely. We know the things we need to do to finish everything and it shouldn't take long once we re-record the V/O with Cecily.

Digital News Production: Consent Forms
These are all the consent forms we have used over the course of our filming and of course I blurred the signatures so they can't be copy or pasted over the internet.
This was a lucky one as we had the pleasure of interviewing Chetna Maken who is a small celebrity from Kent and was at the food festival.
Jo Davies was the women in our video at the cupcake stand as she gives Cecily our reported a cupcake.
Cecily is the reporter for the Live piece at the Broadstairs food festival. We thought we was quite lucky with her although she spoke a bit fast unfortunately.
Jo Scott who is the organiser of the festival and was really excited and up for an interview and she was actually quite good, she didn't talk to fast.
Sheryll was our other reporter for the package piece on the Banksy, now we thought she did a better job than Cecily as she spoke more like a news piece even though Cecily was good.

Fiction Adaptation: Research into Dracula Series
The series Dracula first aired on NBC in September 2013 and lasted for 10 episodes. This was created for American TV and starred Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Dracula/ Alexander Grayson.
This series was adapted from the book Bram Stokers Dracula and it contains the main characters from the book, such as Mina and Abraham Van Helsing.
The main plot of the series is Dracula comes to England and poses as an American entrepreneur and tries to bring modern science to victorian society but in actual fact he wants pay back on the people who ruined his life centuries before, only one thing disrupts his plan by falling hopelessly in love with a women who reminds him of his wife so long ago.
This drama is classes as a horror and is put in the restriction of 18 and aired at 9pm.
I found out some of this information form imdb, also that NBC has cancelled the second series.

Talk with Hannah form Kent Film Office
Hannah Lucey came to the studios to talk to us about the Kent Film Office and what they do, the talk was interesting as they can help out with any production from small to big or student films. They don't charge anything as they are run by the council.
They do all the work for you, you tell them what you want to film and where and they go to all the places and ask for permission which would save us time plus they are professionals so more likely to get responses quicker and more likely to get permission.
This talk has really opened my mind and made me think about how I can get them to help me and maybe I might even consider doing work experience with them in the future.
Since I have now finished filming the Digital News they can't help out with that but I am just about to start wight Fiction Adaptation so will definitely ask their help.
This talk was definitely worth going to as I found out a lot as they can even help find us work experience.

Digital News Production: Edited Presenter Script
Today we filmed with the presenter Jasmin, we feel it went well apart from a few things which we felt we should make tweaks to the script to make it better, also Jasmin pronounced Folkestone wrong as she pronounced the l when its silent but we corrected her nicely and we got it in the end, as Jasmin was reading from the script we just got rid of the l and she then read it better.
We did 2 takes on the script which Jasmin did sitting down at a news desk which looks a bit formal and a version standing as we can then have a choice as we don't want to look to formal and newsy when out channel is more light hearted.

Fiction Adaptation: Dracula Series
The series of Dracula is based on the book by Bram Stoker the same as the films, I wondered how they was going to make the series as its 10 episodes lasting 40 minutes and the films are just over an hour and a half each so I was thinking there wouldn't be enough of a storyline.
This is modernised but still set in victorian times and has the same storyline as the films but Dracula goes by a different name as everyone these days knows the name Dracula plus there is also the order of the dragon with is set up to kill vampires and they know of Dracula, so he goes by the name Alexander Grayson rather than Vlad Dracula.
In the series the difference is that Dracula wants to be good so that he serves Mina rather than just talking her which is what happens in the book so he with the help of Van Helsing, the doctor, tries to make him more human by letting him walk in the daylight, now in the book Van Helsing works against Dracula but he helps him in the series and he is the one who awakens him at the beginning.
Dracula still employs Jonathan and wins Mina, with all the twists like turning Lucy etc.
The order of the dragon find out who Dracula is they try and kill him but end up killing half the town and he survives and Mina falls for him by herself, plus Jonathan turns on Dracula by joining the order of the dragon because he steals his fiancé.
Fiction Adaptation: Dracula 1931
This is the whole film of Dracula, 1931 version on youtube, I watched this as its the first version adaptation from the book by Bram Stoker.
This I found as in black and white a little bit hard to watch and get into at first but once I understood who the characters are and what was happening I found it to be a good adaptation on the book as it is only 40 years after the book and made at that time to be modern but simple as it is not as long as the 1992 version.
The storyline stays the same where Dracula travels to London to win the heart of his financial advisers finance who looks like his wife from his previous life, Dracula travels to London but on arrival people are aware that someone bad is about to happen and that there is a presences around but no one has herd or know about vampires except Van Helsing, so once things start to happen and Mina's friend gets bitten he is called and he tries to save Lucy but fails and with that fails to stop Mina falling for Dracula and in which Jonathan loses the fight and his fiancé.
Fiction Adaptation: Bram Stoker Dracula 1992
This is the trailer for the 1992 version of Bram Stokers Dracula
This is based no the book by Bram Stoker but is an adaptation 100 years after the book was written, it has the same storyline as the book as Jonathan travels to Dracula's castle to help him with buying a place in London where he finds out his fiancé looks like Dracula's long lost wife so he entraps Jonathan and travels to London to win Mina, but un the process he turns Mina's best friend, Lucy and causes havoc so Va Helsing, the doctor, is called where he learns about Dracula and tries to protect Mina but in the end Dracula win's.
This film is set in 1992 so this version is in colour which the first version from 1931 is not making this an easier film to watch plus is has been modernised for the audience.

Digital News Production: People's Roles
In our group we have 4 of us which means we can spread out the roles more;
We have me; my role is Producer which means I am in charge of most things that need doing up to the shoot. I organise everyone making sure everyone is free for when we need to film and who they will get to the shoot. I make sure we have everything we need to film so camera is booked with all the equipment, everyone knows their roles and what they are doing. First I have to find the story and get people to agree to let us film and get volunteers if we need interviews, then I need to plan the shoot with the people so when and what time plus what we will be allowed to do. We don't want to step any marks.
Next is Lex;
Lex is the main editor who will be editing the "LIVE OB" this is the Broadstairs Food Festival footage. Even though editing does not take place until after the shoot Lex will also be on sound or directing during the 2 shoots and doing research and blogging. Lex will help out with the idea's for the news pieces and help write the scripts as he is good at script writing.
Michael;
Mike's main role is camera man which is only during the shoots. Mike is also doing all the graphics for us, this includes the green screen effect, the intro and anything else we want to create. Graphics are a bit time consuming sometimes so these are Mike's main 2 jobs but he will also be helping with idea's and script so that will be a group contribution. So far Mike was the one who came up with the idea for the intro.
Sophie;
Sophie was originally suppose to be researcher but this was not a big role so Sophie will be helping out with things like script, blog and if I need any help until shoot day which she will then will be either sound or director, then she will be another editor and edit the package (the Banksy footage)..
This pretty much sums up our whole project as we have things planned and then the shoot people and are editors.

Fiction Adaptation: Essay Idea Decided
I was told that I could not do Alice in Wonderland as this has to been a series on TV in either England or America and we need to compare a book and a TV series and not so much the film so I have to change my idea.
This took some work and I had no idea until I had my essay support meeting with Lucy who gave me a couple idea's as I was going to go with Blade but it was a comic first and I wasn't sure I good use it, as I was on the idea of vampires Lucy suggested I do Dracula as he is the oldest and first vampire to date and the origins to all the vampire talks and stories we have these days.
Seen as most people know stuff about Dracula already and I love the genre of vampires I thought this could be a good idea, I just needed to fins out if there was a series of Dracula which turns out there was last year, this means its current and so could be a lot different to the book or a similar modern take on it.
So my first course of action is to read the book and watch the series and if i have time the original Bram Stoker's film in 1931, as this would give me a lot of insight into how different adaptations can be and if people have adapted the series and film in a good way keeping together the structure and characters in a way they should be portrayed or if they are in it at all.

Digital News Production: Banksy Documentary
As we have chosen to do our news package on the art piece Banksy has left in Folkestone I thought I would watch the documentary 'Exit Though the Gift Shop' which is about Banksy. This is the documentary unfortunately this is the only one i could find on youtube and its English most the way through but has French subtitles:
From watching this I have found out that Banksy is like just everyone else he has something he is passion about in life and he just wants to share that with the world, this documentary shows that Banksy goes to any state possible to reach his ambitions and goals by climbing building and facing heights just to get people to see his art works. What Banksy does is highly illegal and he has never been caught, plus no one knows the identity of this illusive artist but he carries on doing what he loves and makes him happy.
This documentary is not really about Banksy but a French man who takes a video camera everywhere he goes, his cousin is a street artist named space invader and he follows him around meeting new artist until one day he gets the change to meet the illusive Banksy and he gets to film it.

Fiction Adaptation: Essay idea
My idea for the essay is to write and compare Alice in Wonderland, the book and the newest film directed by Tim Burton.
As I have already seen the movie I was thinking because Alice in wonderland by Tim Burton is such a weird and different version compared to he rest it might also be a lot different to the book so I would be able to write lots, even though it has similar characters to the other film version it has a different storyline to it.
The only thing is I would have to read the book quickly, but its not a dry big book so shouldn't take to long even though I am a slow reader.
I feel the character, mad hatter, played by Johnny Deep is mad just for him in this movie as it would be hard to cast someone else in a role like this as Johnny Depp is known for his weird and wonderful roles and because he is Tim Burton's best friend he is first choice in all his movies.
Things i feel could be different is the real world part at the beginning and end as you get to see what her life is like and how people say she is weird, also the poem jabberwocky is spoken to alice by Johnny Depp's character speaking about the queen of hearts (played by Helena Bohnam Carter, Tim Burton's wife) two animals that she has for killing people, the bandersnatch which helps Alice later in the film and the jabberwocky which is the weapon to destroy the good queen(Anne Hathaway).

Digital News Production: Green Screen Test
Last friday we got Fergus to teach our group how to set up a green screen, this only took 45 mins as we used a lot of daylight and the daylight lights in the boardroom which helped out our set, we got lex to sit in front of the camera and say a couple words just to test the green screen. Mike put this into After Effects and changed the free screen and this is what we got;
I am pleased with this result and I feel that this is a good green screen as Lex does not look fake and it looks fairly 3D which is what we wanted, we did this by put some depth of field in and making space between Lex and the green screen, if this was out final image I would be happy to hand this in so I am confident that are studio piece next week should go smoothly.

Digital News Production: Intro
This is the Intro we created by splashing paint on a piece of paper and taking lots of photos of it, Mike then put the paint into our News title and made it expand to create the intro we wanted. This was done using after effects but with the moving we made with the paint.

Digital News Production: Package Script
This script is for our package piece on the artwork Banksy has just created in Folkestone, we had a couple of weeks to plan a script and it took us a while as we could not decide which angle we wanted this story to be, my idea was 'is Banksy mocking art or adding to it' but Helen thought we should focus more on the regeneration and the triennial and only mention that Banksy is contributing.
This script was slightly hard to create compared to our food festival as we could have many options for a story. I was the one that started the basis on this script as i am not that good at english Lex and Sophie finished it and made it more suitable for TV.

Digital News Production: Package Practice
We was given a task to practice doing a news package ready for doing our own work. We was given the task in our groups and told to film what Maidstone has to offer this was suppose to be about 1.30 minutes long and have either interviews, walk talkies or V.O's this is what we created:

Digital News Production: Script Practice
The top image is of the script we made as a practice for the LIVE piece, we was given the task to produce a short 1.30 minute piece on what Maidstone has to offer for tourists. This could include interviews, cutaways, walk talky's etc. We decided to keep it simple and just have a presenter and lots of cutaways showing rather than just telling.
The bottom image is the script we used while on shoot and as you can see we made changes as we went which we feel made it better, as sometimes you can't tell if things don't sound right until you say them out loud. We also got ride of the section about the studio's as we felt that everyone will probably talk about the studios so we just did everything else instead.
Digital News Production: Contacting Folkestone Tourist Centre
This is a screen shot of the Folkestone Tourist centre website as i wanted to email them to ask is someone could be on camera and we interview them so we could get another opinion on the Banksy art work. The website has a contact us button which i pressed and it opened up in my emails so i couldn't call them.

Digital News Production: Intro Tests
This is the tests we did on paper with pen and paints the other day, the photos have been put together and now look like an actual moving image, by using time lapse instead of filming we managed to create something without having to edit it plus this is quicker that filming. This whole process was originally Mike's idea and we all had fun doing it plus we are pleased with the results, I think the fingerprints are best but maybe because that was my idea, we are thinking we will go with the paint splatters (the last one).

Digital News Production: Intro Designs
Our idea was to make our intro with paints using Pollock's art as are basis idea. We wanted to have paint splatters that would appear slowly inside our title, Kentertainment. First we had to decide on how exactly we was going to do this, but Mike had tried this with pen and it looked good so we next we had to go out and buy paints and felt pens as we decided to try it with both, we had already chosen the colours as our channel is going to consist of our favourite colours; Blue, Green, Red and Yellow. This is us setting up so we don't get paint everywhere and testing the paint.
Next we had to make sure the camera was ready and in the right setting to take multiple picture continuously until stooped, Mike set up his Cannon on to of a table so we could get up high for a good angle. We joined 2 tables together so we could set up the camera and the paints.
We thought we should celotape the paper down just in case one of us moves it while drawing, if the paper would have been over we would of had to start again as the camera was set up to just see the whole paper. We tested the pens first so we each had our pens and when the camera was started we each took it in turns to draw on the paper swirls.
These are both examples of what we created for the intro, the first one was better as this one does not read h the edges plus there is not a lot of blue or green as the main colour you see is red, plus its very swirly.
This is our first attempt at using the paints, this we felt was a good first attempt but it wasn't good enough to use as the paint is not all over the page just in the middle and we need it to fill the page, but the paint went well just need bait more of each colour spread out like blue at the top of the images and more green too.
We had a second go with the paint and this time it was a lot better, it filled the page and we each got an even amount of paint on, the only thing with this painting was that Mike forgot to put a card in the camera so this one did not have any footage to it.
So we had to try again and this one was good and we think we will use this for our intro and have this fit into out title. This one could have filled the bottom up a bit better and a bit more yellow just to brighten up all the colours as it looks a bit dark.
Me and Sophie was messing around with paints as we got a little bit on each other and so we camera up with the idea of doing fingerprints instead of paint splatters, plus this would then make the intro a little longer as it would take longer to film, the others were a bit quick. We did this and it was fun even though it wasn't our original idea it worked out well and we all liked it, so it will definitely be considered as our intro instead of the paint splatters.

Digital News Production: Practice Package Script
We was given a task to create a sort package to help us prepare to film our own news package next week. We was given a week to film this short 1.30 minute package about what Maidstone has to offer.
This can be done by using interviews, cutaways, V/O, walk talkies with the presenter.
We sat down as a group and decided what we feel Maidstone has to offer and what we want to film, obviously we thought about the studios but we thought that everyone else would think of that too so Mike talked about Mote park and all that happens there, the big thing would be the town centre so we would have to film there too but may need permission.
As you can see on the shoot we did end up changing the words slightly as they did not sound right when I said them. We did not end up recording the studios paragraph as we didn't want to be like everyone else and film the studio's so we concentrated on the rest of Maidstone instead.

Digital News Production: Package Idea
The news piece we have found to do our package on is Banksy, as he has just created a piece of work on a wall in the town Folkestone. This piece is of a old women looking at a piece of art on a pedestal, this is considered to have a meaning of how we interpret art. We thought this went with you genre/style we chose, entertainment, as this is art and culture plus Banksy is well known and people find what he does interesting. We decided this would be the package instead of the live as notice is going on in Folkestone or this story to report live plus with the package we can cut and put lots of cutaways as its not filmed live.
We have decided as the triennial is also happening at the same time, which is an art exhibition to promote the area we should also mention this in our story, also Banksy has joked and said he did this art piece to contribute to the triennial so we feel we should make our story more of the art that is trying to bring Folkestone back to life and a tourist beach destination.
We also found out that Folkestone is trying to regenerate the town to make it more like Margate and a modern tourist place, they are doing this with the help of the art work which could be another take on our story.
